The title refers to the repeated studies, enquiries and reports documenting species collapse, environmental degradation and water stress. Yet for Australian governments, miners and developers, it’s business as usual. Nothing changes. In Mise-en-abyme, Murray and Burgess use yellow saplings to brace a cluster of black and burnt trees in a mutually supporting structure. It conveys the notion that damaged yet capable of regenerating, the natural world depends on changes in human actions to survive.
